Plays: 1,992[Flash 9 is required to listen to audio.]
And who are you, the proud lord said,
that I must bow so low?
Only a cat of a different coat,
that’s all the truth I know.
In a coat of gold or a coat of red,
a lion still has claws,
And mine are long and sharp, my lord,
as long and sharp as yours.
And so he spoke, and so he spoke,
that lord of Castamere,
But now the rains weep o’er his hall,
with no one there to hear.
Yes now the rains weep o’er his hall,
and not a soul to hear.(via drunkonfairyblood)

I’m sure a lot of non book readers are beginning to wonder why half the fandom is flipping out over this song.
Well it gets played during some very…. important parts in the book. OTHER THAN THAT here’s the relevant backstory on why they wrote this song about Lord Tywin Lannister. It’s non spoilery since it deals with events that took place PRIOR to the books’ events:
House Reyne of Castamere was a noble house from the Westerlands. It was once the richest and most powerful Westerland house after the Lannisters. According to semi-canon sources they blazoned their arms with a red lion rampant regardant with a forked tail, armed and langued gold, on silver.[1]
During the reign of Tytos Lannister (Lord Tywin’s weak willed father) the Lord of House Reyne rebelled against his overlord along with the Tarbecks of Tarbeck Hall. The Lord of House Reyne was an experienced warrior while Lord Tytos was rather weak so it appeared that their rebellion could be successful. In the end Tytos’s young son and heir Tywin Lannister (Jaime, Cersei and Tyrion’s dad) held the command of the Lannister army. Tywin besieged the castles and destroyed the rebels. After the rebellion the seats of the rebels were brought down and both houses were completely exterminated.
It is not known if the rebels died in acts of war or that they were executed.
After the end of the rebellion the song The Rains of Castamere was made about the rebellion. The refrain goes:
And who are you, the proud lord said,
that I must bow so low?
Only a cat of a different coat,
that’s all the truth I know.
In a coat of gold or a coat of red,
a lion still has claws,
And mine are long and sharp, my lord,
as long and sharp as yours.
And so he spoke, and so he spoke,
that lord of Castamere,
But now the rains weep o’er his hall,
with no one there to hear.
Yes now the rains weep o’er his hall,
and not a soul to hear.[2]
And the reason people get emotional is… this song reoccurs during the series… and during very… emotional parts.
